Daily Journey Journal #267: different strokes

From February 18, 2015

I don’t know much about cars, beyond their transmission type, color and general size. Sure, I know a couple of car names (Honda CRV, Hyundai Elantra, Subaru Outback), but that is only because those are the cars my parents drive. Beyond these superficial things, I really couldn’t tell you much about the differences between any two cars. Most days, this isn’t really a problem, but today wasn’t most days. Today was the day we test drove a car (a Subaru!!) with the hopes of becomes first-time car owners. And it went great, except that we don’t really know what to look for, particularly in a used car.

As it just so happens, however, there is a mechanic in town who specializes in Subarus, who has an incredible passion for them.  While I may not be able to see or hear anything wrong, he will be able to read the car’s mechanics like a book, listen to its engine and hear the missing notes, check it over and find the weaknesses. It is in situations like these that I am reminded again of how beautiful even a small community like Laramie can be. I love the different interests and passions that form our community and allow us to help one another out.
